To work as a real estate agent, Do I have to work for a company, or can I work on my own?
I live in New York and I recently became interested on becoming a Real Estate Agent in New York. I want to know if I have to work for a Real Estate Company, or if I can work on my own, and if I can work on my own How?
My Boyfriend Flips homes and he needs a Real State Agent, therefore, I want to become an agent. We soon hope to start a bussiness together in the near future.
Your real estate license can only be kept active with a real estate broker office – an office that is headed by someone who has real estate broker license.
There are some brokers who charge a small desk fee to “help” agents who want to be on their own. Usually they charge a few hundred dollars a year.
However, there are advantages of going with big name brokers. For one, a famous “Wxxxx” realtors encourage their agents to sell properties within their own network, then to other big name firms, small firms then FSBOs.
With a big name firm, you also get better professional network for other related services, like appraiser, contractors, insurance, financing services, title companies etc.
Some firms provides more training than others which is another consideration for choosing a brokerage firm.
